Both IPL and photofacial are the same treatment.
They are just two different names for the same procedure. IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. IPLs and photofacials denote a procedure where a light based (not laser based) treatment is performed of the face to target different pigmented lesions and broken capillaries with the goal of improving the pigmentation of the skin. At the same time, there is stimulation of collagen production which can improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin.
In order to achieve visible and appreciable results, more than one IPL treatment is typically needed. Typically, a series of 3-6 treatments are recommended to achieve optimal results A single treatment will often leave patients disappointed as there is very little effect seen from a single IPL or photofacial treatment.
